What’s Goin’ On At MOSAIC CLT Gardens? Read All About It…‏

Happy Saturday!

I hope that each of you have had a productive enjoyable day today.  The community gardens sure did!  The gardens had more than 30 visitors and volunteers today – the largest visiting day so far this year!

First up,

Troop 01104 Girl Scouts of the Boyertown Service Unit visited the garden and helped to relocate mosquito-repellent plants from their plastic pots to one of our unassigned garden beds until after the last frost.  The plants will be planted in the perimeter garden beds on the first official Garden Work & Play Day.  We are hopeful that the mosquito-repelling geraniums will keep those pesky insects at bay.  The geraniums smell like citronella candles…take a whiff the next time you stop by the garden! J

Troop 01104 will be back at the gardens this Saturday to work on their very own plot.  They will learn more about planting, growing and composting at the gardens.

Next up,

About 20 young women, members of the YWCA, stopped by the gardens loaded with a super-healthy lunch prepared back at the YW.  The girls and their group leaders toted gourmet sandwiches, fruit salads, brownies and plenty other goodies made with the freshest ingredients!  We shared information about the community gardens, why they were developed and how to become a member.  The lunch date couldn’t have been any better!  It takes mega talent to make brownies with black beans, spinach and coffee…the girls got it!  Thank you, girls, for sharing your amazing meal!

Now What?!

On the following days, we will be working in the gardens to prepare both locations for the soon-approaching planting day, Saturday May 17!  Mark your calendars!  Our first priority is to lay 30 cubic yards of top soil in order to create the new garden beds at our 615 Chestnut Street location.  Then, we will move forward with mulching and perimeter planting.  Please reply to this email if you can be there to help!
