MOSAIC Community Garden News‏

Hi Gardeners,

I hope you all are enjoying the gardens and reaping a great harvest this season!

There is plenty going on in and round the community gardens in the final stretch of this year’s growing season.

Healthy Family Nights starting September 30th

Sponsored by Genesis Housing Corporation and in collaboration with ArtFusion and Olivet’s Boys and Girls Club, Mosaic will offer interactive nutrition 8-week workshop free for the entire family.  Adults and children will learn how to make better food choices and how to prepare better meals the entire family will enjoy.  Our Healthy Family Nights also offers each family to create their own food journal to keep recipes and other food or fitness related artwork!  After each session, everyone is invited to work out in the gym at the Olivet’s with a personal trainer!  Don’t miss out on this great learning opportunity!  Please see attached flyer to register and learn more about the program.

HarvestI’ve Been Told Our Corn is Delish! – Each Active Garden Member is Welcome to Take 2 Ears at No Cost

The corn grown at the gardens at 615 Chestnut Streets is ready for pickin!  Don’t the slightly brown husks on the top of the ears fool you, we had to let the ears grow to about 6” or more which took some time.  But now it’s ready!  We were told by our lovely garden member, Margo, that it is delicious!  (see her smiling face in the photo attached).  Thanks Margo for critiquing our corn-growing skills!

Every active garden member who has a plot this season is welcome to take 2-3 ears of corn to enjoy at their leisure.  Please respect the sense of community and only take what is yours – helping yourself to more than 2-3 ears will keep another family from enjoying the same experience.  The code for the lock at our 615 gardens is the same as the gardens at 423.  Help yourself (to what is yours)!

Please get your share of corn no later than Friday, September 9/12 at 8:00 AM.  The rest of the corn will be harvested and sold on the produce cart Saturday morning.

Speaking of Produce Cart

The cart is flourishing this year and there is still time for you and your family and friends to buy fresh vegetables and herbs!  They go on sale every Saturday beginning at 9:00 AM.  The cart won’t be around for long as this year’s season is quickly coming to a close.  Please visit the gardens at 423 Chestnut Street to make your purchases on Saturday…it could be your last opportunity.  Attached are a few photos of what went on today at the garden…check it out!

A Season to Be Thankful (Random Acts of Gratitude)

MOSAIC wishes to take a brief moment to thank the organizations, garden members, their family and friends and our other countless volunteers who have helped in the success of the gardens this season!  We hope our partnerships, collaborations and community development efforts will continue for years to come.  A big huge thanks to EVERYONE!

Gratitude can transform common days into Thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities in blessings. – William Arthur Ward
