MOSAIC Community Gardens – IMPORTANT News, Update and Reminders‏

Good morning gardeners,

I hope each of you are having a fabulously-relaxing summer while managing to stay cool and hydrated at this point.

Pick Your Own Plot! – AN URGENT MESSAGE!

There have been cases at both garden where gardeners vegetables are being picked by someone else.  Two gardeners have complained that their produce has been taken by someone else.  THIS IS NOT GOOD.  Many of our gardeners come to the garden regularly and pick their produce on a day and time suitable to them.

Let’s not be the judge of whether or not they show up.  I have heard from other gardeners, “People aren’t picking their produce.”  Well, our response to that comment, “Give them a chance.”  Gardeners have had cucumbers, zucchini and watermelons taken right from under their families noses.  This is not fair.

Please understand, there are only 4 “community plots” located at the 615 Chestnut Street garden.  And even these plots should not be over-picked as some of the produce will be sold to local restaurants and on our produce cart.  The money will be used to benefit additional community garden initiatives.

Some people are sharing produce with the non-gardeners in our community and we encourage and value what you do.  However, do not allow it to be at the expense of gardeners who tilled, weeded, planted and PAID for their plots!

Water, Water and More Water

Don’t forget to water your garden plot!  Now is the time of year where garden plots need to be water each day.  A few minutes in the morning or late afternoon will do wonders for your harvest!  Remember to water before 10:00 am or after 3:00 pm in order to not damage your plants.

Also, the garden needs everyone’s help in order to be successful.  Please take a moment to weed an area outside of your plot, water a perimeter plant or sweep the front walkways at the gardens.  The gardens look great but can look so much better if everyone pitches in!

PRODUCE CART – BACK IN BUSINESS!

Spread the word, let all of your neighbors know!
