Garden Season Is Upon Us

The days are getting longer and the sun is shining brighter these days.  Spring is slowly inching back into our lives and soon the beautiful greenery of Pennsylvania will return.  With that return, it’s time to start working in our yards and gardens.

Our work with Mosaic Community Land Trust starts to ramp up this time of year.  Through our four community gardens in the Borough of Pottstown, we work with neighborhood residents to provide garden plots, tools and plants to appropriately start their garden.

Gardens?  Farming? Healthy options?  In the heart of downtown Pottstown?!  You might be asking yourself how and where.  With two of our urban farms on Chestnut Street, one on the corner of Walnut & Charlotte and one on the site of Barth Elementary; Mosaic reaches across all of Pottstown working with borough residents and those genuinely interested in gardening and beautifying our incredible community.

We also offer a CSA Scholarship Program to our members, working with local farms such as Knee-High Farm and Tine & Toil.  Short for “Community Supported Agriculture”, residents receive weekly produce at the peak months of the growing season. With generous support from Pottstown Health & Wellness Foundation and the Leo & Peggy Pierce Foundation, we’re delighted to bring together our downtown and countryside.

We are proud to champion the role of wellness in urban revitalization. Beyond providing space for neighbors to grow and have access to fresh, healthy food close to home, our community gardens and events are a place of connection and empowerment. This is very much a collaborative program with the community.

We have several events over the course of the season that you can find at www.mosaicclt.org or on our Facebook page.  As the sun comes out, we hope to see you soon!
